Claire Lauer, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon. Dr. Lauer cares for patients who have problems with their digestive or internal organs. She’s also board certified in trauma surgery. Trauma surgery is needed for life-threatening injuries or illnesses.

Dr. Lauer trained in trauma surgery at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. MedStar has a Level I Trauma Center. Centers with this designation care for people with the most complex needs. She also completed her general surgery training at a large regional hospital, Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa.

She earned her medical degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond, Va.

Dr. Lauer has contributed to several medical journals and books. She and her team published a paper about treating small bowel blockages for The American Surgeon. Dr. Lauer has also written a chapter on kidney surgery for the book Operative Techniques in Surgery, 2nd edition.
