Clinical placement information for current NP/CRNA students
Looking for a clinical placement?
This page is intended for students who are already enrolled in a nurse practitioner (NP) or certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) program. Because clinical education depends on available preceptors and clinical capacity, placement opportunities cannot be guaranteed.
All NP and CRNA student clinical placement requests within the PeaceHealth Oregon network are coordinated centrally through the PeaceHealth Center for Medical Education & Research in Oregon.
Before submitting a placement request
School requirements
Contact your school’s clinical placement coordinator to confirm that your program meets the following requirements:
- Current accreditation by an appropriate accrediting organization
- Clinical objectives that align with the requested experience
- Ability to enter into an affiliation agreement with PeaceHealth if one is not already in place
- You are APPROVED to seek a clinical experience
Student requirements
Students must:
- Be in good academic standing
- Meet all requirements established by their school
- Be able to meet PeaceHealth onboarding and compliance requirements
- Hold an active Oregon registered nurse license
Clinical placement review process
A clinical placement request generally involves the following steps:
Step 1: Identify a potential preceptor or clinical opportunity
If a PeaceHealth caregiver is interested in serving as your preceptor, ask the caregiver to contact the PeaceHealth Center for Medical Education & Research at jcole3@peacehealth.org. Identifying a potential preceptor is helpful, but it does not guarantee that the placement will be approved.
Step 2: Complete the clinical placement intake form
Submit the NP and CRNA clinical placement intake form . The form collects information about your school and program, clinical requirements, requested specialty, preferred dates, required hours and any potential preceptor you have identified.
Step 3: Email your current CV
After submitting the intake form, email your current CV to jcole3@peacehealth.org. Include your full name, school and clinical specialty in the subject line.
Step 4: Placement review and approval
Our team will review your submission, verify the status of the required affiliation agreement and evaluate potential placement opportunities. We will contact you if additional information is needed.
Step 5: Complete onboarding and compliance requirements
If your placement is approved, you will receive instructions for completing the required onboarding and compliance activities. You may not begin your clinical experience until you have completed all requirements and received final written approval from PeaceHealth.
Important considerations
A willing preceptor does not automatically result in an approved placement. Approval depends on several factors, including:
- Specialty and clinical learning requirements
- Preceptor and clinical capacity
- Existing student and learner commitments
- Affiliation agreement status
- Onboarding and compliance requirements
- Educational fit
- Requested dates and number of clinical hours
Frequently asked questions
Does PeaceHealth guarantee clinical placements?
No. We work with students, schools and potential preceptors to evaluate available opportunities, but we cannot guarantee a placement.
Are PeaceHealth employees given preference?
PeaceHealth may consider workforce development needs and internal educational priorities when evaluating requests. Employment with PeaceHealth does not guarantee placement.
How far in advance should I submit my request?
Submit your request several months before your anticipated start date. Requests involving a new affiliation agreement may require additional time.
Can I begin clinical hours after a preceptor agrees?
No. A student may begin only after the placement has received final approval and all affiliation, onboarding and compliance requirements have been completed.
